The Tolosa International Choir Contest is an annual international choral competition that has taken place in Tolosa since 1969, and always around the All Saints’ Day.

Its intention is to bring together the best choirs in the world, in order to make possible the exchange of styles, interpretation, choral literature, vocal education and modes of each country and, likewise, to publicize the musical and cultural tradition of the Basque Country. Over the years, it has become one of the most important choral competitions in the world. Until its 53rd edition, more than 1,250 choirs from all over the world have participated in Tolosa.

Regarding the Tolosa Choral Contest, in this 53rd edition we receive choirs from Estonia, Poland, Mexico, the United States, Latvia, Sweden, Ireland, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Valencia that will compete in the Polyphony and Folklore modalities. Asturias, Catalonia, Estonia, Latvia, Poland and Sweden will compete in the Children’s Contest.

In the Mixed Choirs Polyphony category, the compulsory work that everyone must interpret will be Ave Maria, gratia plena, a work composed by Josu Elberdin. It is a piece written for the XXV anniversary of the Canarian choir Camerata Lacunensis.
