“Units pel nostre parlar” (United by Our Language) is a project by the Sant Josep de sa Talaia Town Council in Ibiza aimed at promoting knowledge, preservation, and the dissemination of the Catalan language and Ibiza’s cultural and traditional heritage. The initiative encourages the participation of local organizations and associations through various activities centered on the island’s language, music, literature, poetry, and traditions.

As part of this project, the choir Petit Cor, under the direction of Jordi Martí, sought to make a contribution linking contemporary musical creation with the revival of Ibiza’s cultural heritage. To this end, they commissioned composer Josu Elberdin to write a new choral work based on the poem “Ball pagès” by the Ibizan writer and poet Marià Villangómez.

The result is a newly created choral piece designed for choir with accompaniment by piano, Ibizan castanets, and the *tambor pagès* (traditional Ibizan drum). In this way, the work unites the poetry of a major figure in Ibizan literature with the language of contemporary choral music and sonic elements drawn from the island’s musical tradition.

The project thus aims to highlight and modernize Ibizan cultural heritage, establishing a dialogue between tradition and contemporary creation while helping to incorporate Ibiza’s unique culture and language into the modern choral repertoire.

The work premiered on September 16 at 8:45 PM at the Can Jeroni Auditorium in Sant Josep de sa Talaia.
