The Etxepare Basque Institute is the Institute that is responsible for promoting culture and the Basque language throughout the world.
It has 12 chairs spread across all continents in which it collaborates with different universities in this task of promoting and understanding Basque culture and language.
The Eloise Garmendia Chair is located in Boise (USA) and for 10 years has focused its work with several departments of Boise State University. For this February 2025, they will have Josu Elberdin as a guest. They have prepared a collaboration with the Department of Basque Studies and the Department of Music.
For two weeks, Elberdin will give several lectures open to the University community, and will have the opportunity to work with several choirs and orchestras from Boise. Within the Music Department, under the direction of Dr. Richard Hutton, a Suite has been commissioned from Elberdin, based on several Shakespeare sonnets translated into Basque by Juan Gartzia. They will be premiered by the Meistersingers of Boise University, in a concert shared with the Biotzetik Choir of the Euskal Etxea of Boise.
