Ourencanto is a pioneering project in Galicia, an initiative of Cristina Rodríguez Boado and Carlos Núñez Deza that seeks to promote and disseminate choral singing among children and young people in Ourense and the surrounding province. Since its first edition in February 2017, it has exceeded all expectations in terms of participation, impact, and results, becoming a national and international benchmark.
Ourencanto is a gathering of children’s, youth, and school choirs, where for three days children and young people live together and participate in choral singing workshops, coordinated by one of the most prominent composers and conductors on the national and international scene, culminating in a grand concert performed by all the participants.
The success of Ourencanto has led to the creation of other festivals with similar characteristics, both in our region (A Mariña Encanto) and in other regions (Burgos Encanto), and even international festivals in Latin American countries, such as the Batuta Foundation project in Colombia, which helps underprivileged children through music, with a very similar festival format.
The Festival is, without a doubt, a leading event in its category, both nationally and internationally.
The event is made possible thanks to the sponsorship of the Ourense City Council, the Ourense Provincial Council, the Xunta de Galicia (Regional Government of Galicia), and the Ourense Teacher Training and Resource Center, as well as other collaborating companies.
This year, more than 300 young people from Ourense and different parts of Galicia will participate. As always, they will have the artistic direction of Josu Elberdin, and this year they will also have the presence of Javier Busto, one of the most important choral music composers of our time, as a guest conductor.
Dates and Venue
The event will take place from April 10th at the Ourense Professional Music Conservatory and on April 11th and 12th at the Ourense Municipal Music Auditorium. The closing concert will be on April 12th at 7:00 PM at the Ourense Municipal Auditorium.
